9:36 am - And this is why I hate him
Direct quote from the director of the vet tech program, Dr. Cook-- we were discussing neuters; the subject was a type of neuter that used to be done in cats, which often resulted in heavy bleeding. Dr. Cook mentions that the procedure is still used in pigs.

'One in about 200 bled to death. Well, that's okay in pigs, and it was okay back then in cats, but...'

10:45 pm - New paths
Big decision:
I'm going to be a doctor.

After much angsting and much thinking, I've decided that no matter what it takes to get there with my sanity, I will be a veterinarian. Ten years is my goal. (It's possible in nine.)
My mum supports me and will do what she has to to help me get there. My mother... well, I'll cross that bridge when I figure out how not to burn it down.

You're reading the journal of the future Dr. F.C. Ephardt, DVM.

On a completely different note, I seem to have adopted the nickname 'Mouse.' Hm.

1:52 pm - Summer
I am having such a hard time finding my summer externship site... PLEASE GODS let me find one before Wednesday!!!

Also, I've come to a decision that will affect my life drastically, but I don't think I'm ready to spill just yet. I'll just say I have a new goal for my life.

6:36 pm - Wish me luck!
I put in my application today for my summer externship! I better get it, 'cause I think it may be my only option. :P Wish me luck!

Also, is anyone else sick of being treated like a criminal just because they're under 30? We were in Hallmark today sniffing the Yankee candles (working on our house scent scheme), and the lady came over to us and asked if we needed help (calling me a girl, gag me). We told her no, we were just smelling the candles, and she said okay. And then she didn't leave. She hung around us, peeking over our shoulders until we left, at which point she followed us us out and watched until we were halfway down the hall, like she was waiting for us to take our loot out of our jackets or something. I just wanted to smell the friggin' candles. Jeex.

9:02 am - I am so mad at Jo.
So, I'm re-reading Half-Blood Prince. OMG. Every bloody word is so infuriating. The complete character assassination of Draco, the blatant homophobia of the Remus/Tonks thing, the whole Snape dilemma, Bill/Fleur, Harry being a total prat, the wonly half-werewolf crap... this book was hell. The only cool thing about this book was Harry's Potions book. Because Snape=r0x0r. I totally need Snape icons. Oh, and Weasleys. Specifically Ginny, who grew up quite a bit, and Forge, who have the awesomest shop EVER.

Someone tell me something else cool about this book. Amy. You can help me.

10:35 am - -Raspberry-
There was a yucky exam in Small Animal Nursing this morning. Everyone thinks they failed. I hate the teacher for the class. He never bloody prepares us for his bloody exams.

I want less animals. Oh well. Right now, this very moment, I want two dogs, three cats, two bonded bunnies, two rats, and a mouse. But I have way more than that, and I love them. -sigh- I loves my babehs, but they can be a lot to handle sometimes. Ah well.

Next week we have bloody three people visiting. Have to clean house. I'll be happy to see them all. Except Yu's mother. :P

Ooo, I'm sleepy now. And HUNGRY.

OMG I am so sick of people who see a number and say 'OMG!!11!! YOU HAVE TOO MANY ANIMALS!!11!! CLEARLY YOU DON'T TAKE CARE OF THEM RIGHT CUZ YOU HAVE SO MANIES!!1!'

Wow. Sorry. Old wound, never stops getting salt thrown in it. It's not even pointed at me-- I just see people saying it about others and get all uppity. I have TWENTY-ONE. And they're all happy and healthy and as well-adjusted as they can be. They all get as much attention as they want, and great living spaces and eats. For those that can stand variety, we even change what they eat all the time so they don't get bored.

Okay, I have to stop now.

I luvs mah babehs. They know it. I just wish the whole world could know it.

I can't wait for Llewellyn to come home. I'm getting anxious. I miss her all the time, and she's starting to lose her mind in that place. -SIGH-

10:15 am - at school
I was very upset yesterday upon finding that all the dogs have had their bones thrown out by accident, so they're sitting in their cages with nothing to do all day, poor doggies. This morning I went in to get Llewy out for outdoor play/training, and behold! All the doggies have bones again. Made me happy. Judging by how long it's taken them previously to buy the dogs new toys, I really thought it was going to be a while. I'm glad they got on it this time.

The poor animals are going stir crazy in those cages. I hope May comes soon.

We looked at parasites under microscopes today. I'm going to be itchy for a while.

2:53 pm - Mousebrother?
I have come to an interesting realisation as of late. Where I had thought for years that the cat was my heart animal, I have come to the thought that perhaps the cat is not who I am, but who I want to be.

Cats are laid-back and love to cuddle, but don't hesitate to bop you one if they don't like what you're doing. They love to be the centre of attention, but are not too proud to shy away from strangers. Furthermore, they're the bosses of everything. :P

Lately I've been feeling a pull I couldn't explain to mice. When I would see a picture of a mouse, I'd feel a heart-wrench. I read the His Dark Materials books and wanted a daemon, specifically a mouse-shaped one. I have been bonding more strongly with my mouse Mirkwood.

When I thought about it, I realised that though I have this pull to cathood, perhaps I am more of a mouse person. Mice are shy and desire to be inconspicuous. They are afraid and shy away from contact. They love to be in their warm cozy dens best of all. They have a strong sense of survival, which includes not getting in people's faces, though they'll fight with other critters if seriously threatened of protecting something. And of course, they have a lot of babies. That's much more like me, with my intense fear of drawing attention to myself. I won't even say the answers to questions in class, even when I know them for certain and the rest of class is chiming in. People make me nervous-- all I want to settle into my cozy house and curl up in a ball.

Maybe I would be better called mousebrother.

12:01 pm - T_T
It's been a while since I've written an actual post. Hello.

I hate cleaning kennels. At school, anyway. See, cleaning kennels at school means:

-getting up at four o'clock in the morning
-taking a taxi to school (over twenty dollars) because the buses don't run that early
-babysitting a student who goes horrifyingly slow and needs directions from me on what to do every five minutes and asks stupid questions and does stupid things just to procrastinate
-double-checking everything he did (because I don't trust him to do it right, and if he screws up, I fail)
-inevitably getting points off because I forgot to double-check something he did
-trying to clean hair from a floor that respawns hair like WoW mobs, with a mop that has hair in it
-looking up at the cage I've just cleaned to see that its resident just messed it up again
-scrubbing fecal material that has been mashed into the floor of the cage by doggy paws
-knowing that whatever we're doing that day had better be easy, as I am going to be half-asleep for it, even if I went to bed at nine o'clock the previous evening
-undoubtedly spilling something (yesterday it was a big bucket of disinfectant, all over my clothes)
-wanting to go home, but being unable to because I have to stay there and do it all again that evening

...and other joys.

I'm ready to go home now. And I can't. I need sleep.

On a brighter note, we decided on a dog breed that we want to breed eventually-- the saluki.

5:41 am - -sigh-
I just want to make it clear that when you have 23 animals and many of them are rescues, you have to deal with a lot of death. In the past two days we lost two more-- Newt and Stradivarius. I feel like I got closure with them, though, so I'm doing better.

Newt was my worn out little hammie, and he said a proper goodbye. We hadn't sat and held him for a while, since he was always hanging out in his wheel, where we couldn't get at him, but that day I held him for a good while, and the day before that Yu held him. He died in a comfy sleepy position, and he looked very peaceful.

And Strad... well, who knows. Crabs don't betray emotions, really, but we didn't know what to expect with him and Rugs, so I prepared myself for their deaths long ago.

-sigh- I'll be okay, but it sucks. I miss Noxie.
